Employing someone can I
Answer1:Yes, its frequently done to pay salespeople commission only. You are actually offerring a substantial share in the business as well. Probably you should advertise for a sales manager or a sales executive, not just a salesman. I wouldnt phone around to find people. Advertise in your local paper or post the job on Monster, or go to a local business networking event and pass out flyers there. List it with your state job services, too. I also wouldnt limit the number of phone interviews. See how many resumes you get, call all of the ones that look good, and follow up the phone interview with face-to-face interviews with every candidate who impresses you on the phone. If you need to narrow it down after you meet them, make a short list and have a second interview. To answer your last question, giving person partial ownership in one business would not confer ownership of your other businesses, as long as they are set up as separate organizations. If you give ownership of an umbrella business (one that owns a group of other businesses), that would give ownership in all businesses under that umbrella, I think.
Answer2:Yes, it is called commission. They should sign an agreement entitling them to so much. No verbal agreements. Contractual employee (1099)
Answer3:I wouldnt give away part of the business, but if you do, do it through a lawyer! And only with a partner you trust.I used to be in sales - still am but am now the boss. Sales reps can earn via commission only or through a regular paycheck plus commission or bonus. I prefer the 2nd way because it reduces the risk of sales reps fudging their figures or being too pushy with clients to make the sale, (which often then get canceled because the client felt railed into it)Ive worked both ways, and commission-only is also quite demoralizing if you have a bad month. Interview as many as you like. A good sales rep should have a great resume - any who cant sell themselves on a resume arent good sales people, IMO, so dont bother with them. After that, phone interview then face to face. Get very picky with questions, because again a good sales rep can gloss over things very professionally!
