How can I jump start a home business

Over 1 year ago I printed business cards to start a home based business assisting Senior Citizens and Veterans who is in need of assistance doing their food shopping, dropping off and picking up of their medications, light house cleaning and other small chores...I have tried handing out my business cards and up till this day I have only received one apartment cleaning job...What am I doing wrong....I am also a disabled person and needs the extra cash..--Answer1:Most seniors and veterans are on fixed incomes and cannot afford to pay someone to do these things. I know several people who thought it was a great idea to start this business. Not one of them lasted more than six months..--Answer2:You need to get the advertisements out to your target market. Print pamphlets and put them into the mail boxes of people meeting the description (there will be suburbs or retirement villages full of your target market). You can start with doing one job for them for free. Than show your winning personality and they will think of you next time they need something..--Answer3:Well the Business cards are nice but you need to get the word out what services you provide. First ask the one person you do work with if he know of others that can use your service. See if you can get a Senior Citizens and or Veterans group that you can volunteer for. The let them know what services you will provide for as individuals. You may have to volunteer several times before you get any solid leads. They will see that you are someone that they can count on..--Answer4:Create some flyers and hand them out. Visit local churches, become a volunteer in the community. You have to get yourself out their so that people will know who you are.The best leads are the ones you generate for yourself or through personal referrals. Through networking in your community, your name will get around.
